Hornby R3392TTS RailRoad BR Class 40 '40164' with TTS Sound
Hornby engineers have developed a unique sound decoder that not only provides superior DCC control but also dedicated sounds associated with the locomotives that have been installed with this new sound decoder - TTS Twin Track Sound.
The BR Class 40 was introduced in 1958 as a mixed traffic engine, and at the time was viewed as the pride of the British Rail early diesel fleet, with 200 locomotives built by English Electric by 1962. Originally introduced to haul express services on the Great Eastern and Great Northern routes, the locomotives were quickly replaced by more powerful engines and were subsequently used on the London Midland Region and West Coast Mainline, eventually being deployed to most areas of British Railways.
By the early 1980s, Class 40s were commonly used as relief locomotives or for excursion and holiday routes, before their withdrawal in 1985.
